Alexander Pope – A Virtual Arcadia

Before Lockdown the Pope’s Grotto Preservation Trust commissioned me again. After the success of my storytelling commission “A Search For Perfection” they asked me to create a literacy intervention for Secondary Schools and also to write and voice the river journey section of “A Virtual Arcadia”.

“A Virtual Arcadia” is the masterpiece of Prof. Paul Richens, who has used computer-game graphics engines to create a 3D reconstruction of the garden Alexander Pope created on his land in Twickenham between 1715-44. It was this garden, inspired by Pope’s translation of Homer, that created the style of gardening now known worldwide as English Landscape Gardening. The reconstruction, which users can wander round at will, is not available online, but the river journey is. So click and enjoy!
